They demonstrate that civil movements can really influence public opinion and lobby interests of a target group.

They plan to become the biggest and the most influential feminine movement in Europe.

The“FEMEN” movement’ mission is to create the most favorable conditions for girls to join up into a social group with the common idea of mutual help and social responsibility, revealing talents of each our member.

To counteract actively to the negative tendencies which put in danger physical and mental health of feminine society in Ukraine.

Female students protest in Ukraine:


The Visa regime was abolished 2005, since then Ukraine developed more and more to destination for sex tourists.

"Go home, sex tourist! Go home, sex tourist!"

Anna Hutsol founded spring 2008 the organization FEMEN.
Why? In Ukraine there was no organization existing which took care of young women and female students and their problems. Women’s originations in Ukraine are lead by old women and the established parties and all are ignorant.

FEMEN is not yet officially organized, there is no budget and no office, but the young organization is already remarkable successful. They are present in the Internet and their colorful activities are interesting for local mass media.

About 12.000 girls read vkontakte and 50 women and men meet regularly to plan activities and actions.

22 million tourist visited Ukraine in 2007. Most men are interested to buy sex. The market is booming as direct and hidden advertising can be found everywhere.

If a poor student girl is being asked for a sex service she considers it difficult to say no. It can create some income to feed herself. But at the same time girls think that foreigners consider all Ukrainian girls cheap, because some offer paid sex.

FEMEN - the name of the organization might be misleading. The girls are no classical feminists who loose themselves in the theoretical discussions. They want to be active for women. They want to convince with arguments.

FEMEN is not yet heard very much.

Many of the existing networks are producing profit in the system and the girls are often black mailed even by authorities. These systems are like cemented and it is extremely difficult to break thru.
There is some small progress, as some militiamen are helpful. With help of the German Boell-stiftung the registration can be organized.
The group has an enormous advantage: The group members are idealists, which is not typical for Ukraine and the idealism could lead to success.

Sex-appeal FEMEN-activists, dressed up in the knight armor made of kitchen utensils, will meet in a duel with their admirers. The masterly possession of weapons which include laddles and frying pans and bullet-proof shields of pots and washing boards will leave the men no chance.
A girl drummers band will raise the fighting spirit of the Iron Ladies as well as will do dance perfomances and traditional champaign.
By this action the “FEMEN” express their admiration of the Ukrainian women, who daily fight for peace and prosperity of their families, relatives and Ukraine on the whole. We would like to show that even in the economic crisis situation and domestic problems the ukrainian women remain the kindest, most beautiful women in the world.
Those who come to our action will get a lot of positive emotions, a bright illustration of the iron will combined with the tenderness of a lady best reflecting the essense of the modern ukrainian woman.

For your information The Women Movement “FEMEN” is an organisation of the young women of the city of Kiev oriented on the women-students of the capital. The main programme of the movement is the national campaign against the sex tourism in Ukraine “Ukraine is a no brothel!” that started 30th July 2008.
