Round Table: Insurance as an Element of Risk Management in Crisis Situation

The meeting took place with support of TAS Insurance Group. Participants discussed different tools of risks minimization in business, like for example insurance. Mr Volodimir Don, Representative of the State Committee for Regulatory Policy and Enterpreneurship of Ukraine in Dnipropetrovsk oblast presented some problems with legal regulation of insurance sector. He marked that there is no term commercial risk in the current Ukrainian legislation that partially explains non-systematic nature of insuring commercial risks.

Mr Kovalenko characterised insurance against image loss that can save a company in case of a spread of false information.

Mr Vadim Kovalenko, First Deputy Chairman of TAS Insurance Group, noticed that crisis attracted businessmen`s attention to new kinds of insurance such as business interruption, i.e. insurance against loss caused by production interruption.

The meeting was held in Dnipropetrovs’k University of Economy and Law with EBA informational support. A Trainer of Corporate Social Responsibility Centre provided participants with complex information about the International Standard of Social Responsibility ISO 26000. The representatives of business community, local authorities and research institutions reviewed the key aspects of social responsibility such as labour practice, human rights, consumer issues, environment etc. The participants passed all necessary stages that are basic for CRS implementation in any organisation: starting from identification of organization`s activity`s aspects and finishing with creation of CSR monitoring indicators. Thus, all participants had a chance to develop CSR implementation strategy for their own orgnisations.

News Round table with STA in Dnipropetrovsk oblast

The meeting was held at the conference hall of STA. Mr Valeriy Leonov, Deputy Head of Dnipropetrovsk STA informed the attendees about general trends of tax payments in 2009. During January-February 2009 tax payments to the regional budget constituted UAH 2.780 bln, which is 12% lower than last year, reported Mr Peter Tseluyko, Head of the Department for Economic Analysis and Forecast. The tax payments in the fuel and energy complex decreased by 10%, in construction sector - by 34%; increased in agriculture - by 19%, in telecommunications industry - by 20%.

Mrs Alla Pasechnyk, Head of the PR Department, reported about the Draft Strategy of Tax System Reform, developed for the period till 2018, which takes account of the objectives of the Programme on Overcoming the Impact of the Global Financial Crisis, adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. According to the Strategy it is planned to adopt the Tax Code of Ukraine by 2009-2010.

«VAT receipts were in order, because it is the tax of consumption, and receipts of income tax decreased», - noted Head of the Department for Taxation of Legal Entities of the STA in Dnipropetrovsk Mr Vitaliy Mironenko.
